Construction Day

This article, about the team effort to build part of the roof of the new administration building, can also be found on the blog of Community Kit, the non-profit organization that Adam is affiliated with. See it here.

Everyone in the community is awake by 5:30, breakfast by 6:30 and work begins by 7:00 am.  Prepare yourself for a long day of mixing and pouring concrete.  Oh, by the way, there isn’t a mixer.  All of the mixing is done by putting cement, small rocks and sand in a circle. Then grooving a circular water trap around the outer edge and mixing from the center.  I’ve included some pictures of the day and all of the wonderful people who were willing to help complete this project.

hand-mixing cement as a team

That’s right, a pool of concrete, shovel it, man and woman handle it up and pour it…

moving cement to the roof via bucket line

No pain no gain…

passing buckets of cement up the ladder

Smiling is the best way to cope with pain…

working hard and still smiling

almost finished, hooray

And finished, start time 7:00 am and finish around 3:00 pm.  We have some sore muscles, but we have finished a very important aspect of the new administration office.  Great job everyone!!!
